cold

the past few weeks have been the coldest we've had yet this winter. it is nice to finally have some weather that is appropriate to the season. the lakes have frozen over and the snow we got two weeks ago is still sticking. today it was -11C, -20 with windchill. sometimes the air sparkles like snow, except there aren't any clouds...

norway

today we kind of accidentally drove to norway.
and we really liked it there.

älgafallet/elgåfossen - a beautiful 46m waterfall just at the border of norway and sweden.
it was mostly frozen over, and we were the only ones around.

nice norwegian mailboxes
there were so many good ones

the norwegian town of halden.
it was a sweet little place, although late on sunday afternoon almost completely deserted.
some parts of it reminded us a little of reykjavík.

"swedish street"
hah.

winter!

last weekend, we finally had some snow!
it has been quite cold since then, so some of it has stayed around.
too bad the weather forecast does not predict any more of it soon.

sunrise

sunday - delsjön

on sunday it was cloudy again, and we took a long 7.5km walk around delsjön.
we saw lots of interesting ice patterns, and the water was so still in most places that it looked like glass.

tjolöholms slott

saturday was a brilliant sunny day and we drove down the coast to visit tjolöholm castle

the castle and its grounds were lovely and well-kept

there was a beautiful view of the small fjord

and some adorable blonde twins playing!

we sat on a bench and watched them a while.
the sun was wonderfully warm on our faces, and it was perfectly still - no wind.

the small beach below was a bit colder

the water was very clear

we explored the paths around the castle

there was a little thatched roof hut

and cheerfully painted barn buildings

afterwards we walked down to the little village to enjoy coffee and blueberry pie with
whipped cream in a cozy cafe, seated right next to a warm log fire! it was a perfect day.
